Backyard, by Richard Hartwell
One can be alone in a garden,
But never lonely;
For company abounds.
Birds flitting,
Snails sauntering,
Lizards lounging on the back wall, basking in the sun.
All these keep me company
Providing ample distractions
From my own inward-turned thoughts.
These are the dashes of color
Dancing across my field of vision
As I turn my range of focus.
Sounds, sights,
Smells abound,
Explosions perfuming sense receptors.
A cordant harmony created
During my brief sojourn
Into the backyard.
